Scheme of Work

There are many different ways that students can use patterns in their art work. In other pages there are suggested activities and investigates using Microsoft Word and Q4 Technologies gridmagic.

This scheme of work concentrates on the use of natural images, clipped and rearranged and reconstructed into repeating patterns

lesson
Activity
1

Collect natural objects (i.e. plants or leaves) and images (i.e. photos)
Using sketch books, draw natural shapes

2
Using a cardboard mask select a sample of the overall drawing that will form the motif of the pattern.
Trace selected motifs using a light box
3

Scan the traced motifs and import into selected graphics program.
Digitally apply colour ways to the image. (Doing this task digitally saves making a mess with paint and allows less skilful artists to get a good quality result)

4
Repeat, flip and mirror the image as required using ICT techniques.
5
Copy and paste resulting motifs into a larger pattern
Repeat process with selected motifs
6
Create a digital portfolio of finished work
7
Print off the best examples or send to school website
8
Written evaluation of the work
