Working with Stand -Alones
| Stand alones can be used as a research tool along with other resources when pupils are undertaking an investigation. If the computer is connected to the internet, this can work very well. | It is not a good idea just to let pupils search for information without guidelines. | Spreadsheets are a good way of collection and collating evidence. |
| Teachers with moderate to good ICT skills can produce a PowerPoint presentation where information is flashed up on a computer a screen at a time. | Prepare a worksheet steering them in the right direction and set a strict time limit for each pupil. This kind of activity works best with group work. | Similarly, information can be collected and put onto a database by pupils. The teacher would just have to set up the blank fields to start with. |
| Very often stand alone PCs are used for word processing or perhaps looking at a CD ROM. It doesn’t have to be that way. |
