Making a transparent banner for a web site

Start a new document

Set the size in pixels to 400 wide and 80 high

Canvas Colour to transparent

WARNING – When you are working in Fireworks – make sure that you remember to select the right tool for the job

From the Tools toolbar BEFORE doing anything on the canvas

Click the text tool and add text

You can edit text in the Text editor (from text menu)

Using the selection tool – Set position and size of text

In the properties box at the bottom of the screen – Set body colour of text

Set outline colour of text and save as Banner

Note the “Fireworks” only saves in PNG (portable network graphics) format.

Like GIF files, PNG format has the advantage of supporting transparency
