Expectations

At the end of this unit ...

  • most pupils will:
    • identify an area of interest within the project brief
    • plan the project, identifying the main tasks including the correct duration
    • design a paper data collection form/questionnaire
    • set up a database; table, form, queries and a report
    • enter data into a database
    • formulate questions
    • interrogate the database using appropriate queries
    • analyse the data
    • make informed software choices
    • produce documentation depicting the system life cycle
  • some pupils will not have made so much progress and will:
    • decide to design a database for their sole use
    • design a paper data collection form
    • set up a database; table and form with no more than 5 fields
    • enter their own music collection into the database
  • some pupils will have progressed further and will also:
    • design appropriate methods for capturing data
    • ensure the quality of their data by including appropriate validation
    • show appropriateness and fitness for purpose in the customisation of their input form and report
    • thoroughly test their database; acting on feedback received when appropriate
    • ensure that particular attention is paid to ease of use and appropriateness of their database implementation
