Car Design Enterprise Project

This enterprise project has been devised to enable it to be delivered as a one day event or as a series of lessons. The subject of car design has been selected as the majority of students have daily contact with cars and vehicles and are familiar with the plethora of advertising, in a variety of media, for motoring. The project has been adapted from a graphics project and can still be used as such but elements have been added to this original project to fulfil enterprise requirements.

Students must work to a brief and consider the requirements of others and not their own wishes. Teamwork is required as well as working to a deadline. A budget is specified and students must choose what features to include in their vehicle, balancing costs with features. Marketing costs and VAT must be calculated, as well as deciding whether to go for high volume low profit or low volume high profit. Teams must present a marketing campaign aimed at their target market including brand image and strap line.

The PowerPoint presentation leads students and staff through the project giving a time line for completing the project in a day, explaining all the key requirements, terminology and giving video demonstrations of how to design the exterior and interior of the vehicle. Video demonstrations of how NOT to give a presentation are also included for analysis and discussion. We have run this as a day project for year 10 at the school with good outcomes and both staff and students enjoying the day.
