SEGREGATION

This section begins by looking at the causes and consequences of the American Civil War, looking specifically at slavery.

The students then move on to look at the beginnings of the Ku Klux Klan in the immediate aftermath of the Civil War. This leads to a study of the 'Jim Crow Laws' and a comparison between the characters Jim Crow and Ali G [both white men dressing as black men for entertainment] but the former making fun of black people while the latter making fun of white people.

The final outcome assesses the living conditions at the start of World War II through some visual source analysis.

The final lesson links this section of the resource to the third and final section which looks at the struggle for Civil Rights.
