Project Outcomes
Most pupils will investigate the masks of other cultures, study and examine their form, construction, shapes, colours, textures and the reasons underlying the purpose and reasons why masks were made. They will employ their own independent research techniques and use this research to develop their own original Mask designs for a self-identified purpose. They will realise one of these designs into a Mask. They will evaluate the success of their own and others work on an individual and a whole class basis.
Some pupils will not have made so much progress and will produce some drawings in different media and a design. They will make a mask and will have had some basic understanding of primitive African culture.
Some pupils will have progressed further and will develop more complex designs and ideas. They will seek ways of solving structural problems independently and they will adopt a very personal rational behind their designs. They will be offered opportunities to either make multiple outcomes in response to the project or they can extend the mask into ceremonial costume.
