The project is a sequence of lessons that was created specifically for students in Years 10 or 11, following the 'Study Plus' course for improving academic performance. The resources can be very easily adapted to be used across other areas of the curriculum.
The idea of 'Study Plus' is to consolidate the numerical and literacy skills that pupils have already learnt during their subject lessons and to help them to apply their skills. This helps pupils to problem-solve.
The project runs over approximately 23 lessons. All lesson plans are given [click the lesson number]. The lesson plans show the lesson objectives and lesson outcomes; the work set can easily be differentiated.
Resources are also available which include both explanations and exercises for the pupils to complete.
Feedback from both staff and pupils have been positive. Staff have noticed an increase of confidence of the pupils in their lessons and their ability to apply a skill to a number of different problems. Pupils have commented on how much they enjoy the subject and feel that it is helping them to reach their potential.
As the teacher, I can confirm the benefits for pupils, not only for the extra numeracy and literacy support, but for the other skills they acquire through communication, team work and presentation skills.
