
You have been asked to design and plan ideas for your future school building competition for your local council. Starting with the ground floor and then making the first and second floors. You will be deciding which subjects will be taught at your school and how many classrooms will be in each department. You must include the 4 core subjects (Maths, English, Science and ICT) and then decide which other subjects will be taught. You will need to think about toilets, corridors, disabled access, Headteachers office, reception, caretakers room and other rooms in a school building. you will initially design the ground floor and work your way up - a maximum of 3 floors is required although G & T learners can do an additional 2 more. Software to be used for designing and planning of the rooms and floors are Microsoft Visio, Google Sketchup, Gliffy, Microsoft Word or SmartDraw. Gliffy, SmartDraw and Google Sketchup are available as free downloads - just click on the free downloads button on the left and follow the instructions to download them onto your PC or memory stick or Sony PsP. The range of National Curriculum levels will range from level 3 to level 7 and the level will depend on the quality of work and outcome of tasks completed and innovatative ideas for the design and planning of the school.
