about Phun

Phun was created by Swedish graduate student Emil Ernerfeldt and is both educational and entertaining and free for non-commercial use. Phun combines physics and art with open ended undirected game play and represents a sandbox application that allows you to design and explore 2D physics simulations. .

Phun can draw simple objects (circles, blocks, freehand shapes) which can be made to interact with each other. You can apply gravity and air pressure to the objects. You can set objects to pivot at certain points and also pin (fixate) object together. Pivots can be motorised to present spinning wheels and you can also create chains. Objects can also be converted to liquid which will then flow across the screen.

There must be many applications for this software which I have yet to explore. In practice teachers only need to show students how the application works and then allow them to get on with it.

Drawbacks to the program are that it hasn't got the friendliest interface (although this doesn't deter many students) and it isn't all that network friendly.
