Rollerball is intended as an introductory 'design and make' task for Yr 7 students in a school workshop, with basic hand tools and power driven equipment.
The outline document provides an overview of the whole project and can easily be extended or altered in the same way as the other documents, so as to extend or reduce the time taken for certain aspects of the work.
Changes to the scheme of work are easily made to suit your own circumstances - for example, extending the length of time or cutting and pasting the contents into your own lesson plan format.
A colour version of the Rollerball student book might be expensive to reproduce each student but it does provide a wealth of information that can be used as support for homework for students and/or to reinforce their practical knowledge. [I strongly recommend this method of use with the addition of
making the book returnable by students at the end of the project.] Alternatively if you have the luxury of a whiteboard the student book can easily be
displayed on the whiteboard for classroom use.
If you have the luxury of a lazer cutter or router the practical project could easily be modified to include aspects of this work within the construction process and the student book modified to reflect this.
I hope you find the project of interest and your students enjoy designing and
making Rollerball.
