This project provides 4 hours' teaching and 1 hour's homework around the development of students' creative skills for designing their own gift paper and covers key aspects of the new curriculum for Design Technology.

The project can be extended still further, whatever equipment you have in school, by asking students to research printing techniques used in industry for manufacturing gift paper ... and still further by using their designs in conjunction with a 'computer-aided design' facility. These two opportunities allow even more of the new curriculum to be covered.

Also included in the resources are notes on supporting weaker ability students.

It is suggested that teachers start each lesson by using the presentation for the lesson. There are opportunities within the presentation for class interaction and discussions of perceived 'good' and 'bad' design ... also opportunities for internet or other research into brand designs and logos etc.
