This project covers the literature of the World War I period and offers a resource for the AQA A Level English Literature (A) examination [the syllabus for which can be found on the AQA website]. With a focus on the Sebastian Faulks' novel 'Birdsong', it offers activities to develop the skills required for responding to prose texts at the standard expected of A Level students.
The resource is driven by a Powerpoint presentation - World War I Literature - which can be displayed on an interactive whiteboard as a focal point for discussion and/or as a visual aid for learning.
All the other resources are hyperlinked from the presentation. The study booklets and worksheets should help students develop a full understanding of large rich texts, whilst the guidance documents cover structured responses to prose texts. The research project and suggestions for wider reading throughout the study of the Birdsong novel will help students prepare for the examination and build a contextual foundation for World War I literary studies.
