Designing data collection sheets

In the lesson 3, students focused on the data they would be collecting and also the locations. This lesson involves using a survey [using Survey Monkey] for designing the data collection sheets. I also spend a little time talking to students during this lesson about why it is important to record data carefully. Often students just make lists and then find it difficult to produce graphs etc from them.

Suggested lesson plan ...

Starter - A quick simple survey on how students travelled to school this week. Again used to stimulate interest.

Main - Designing on paper and then on the computer, a series of data collection sheets using the tools in Survey Money or Excel or another suitable spreadsheet package.

Plenary - Discussion on how this will help students complete their coursework and whether the students could email companies and ask them to complete the survey.

The field trip to Canvey Island takes place between lessons 4 and 5.
