Analysis and conclusions -
referring to the original aim

At this stage, students will soon be completing their coursework or controlled assessment under examination conditions, so it is important that they are well prepared for that 6 hour period, as teacher input is kept to a minimum.

The approach I have taken is to give students sample data, and to then work together as a class on the analysis and conclusions, so they can practice the skills needed in examination conditions. This is also an excellent time to get their folders ready, as they will not be allowed to add or bring anything into the examination apart from the coursework folders!

Suggested lesson plan ...

Starter - Students discuss why this graph has been used to illustrate traffic on and off Canvey Island.

Main - Using the graph as a teaching aid, students work in pairs to produce an analysis of the results. They should begin the main activity with a copy of the graph, which they annotate [notice that titles are missing for example].

Students take it in turns to come up to the whiteboard and write up their analysis of the graph. This is then discussed as a class, and a model answer shown to the class, highlighting the key elements.

Plenary - Question and answer session, and final help for writing up coursework.
