In order to create flexibility in graphic layout, we use can use a high-end graphics editor - in this case, Fireworks.

Fireworks allows us to use tones, shades and font types well and also has a range of more organic shapes.

Fireworks has the ability to work in layers and this is a useful feature allowing greater graphic flexibility.

Images such as photographs could be added to Fireworks if one needed to make a pictorial montage etc.

The graphic needs to be thought about carefully with regards to eventual slicing to help with navigation and page layout.

the wireframe diagram is a major help in deciding on graphic layout and slicing patterns.
