“The Framework for Teaching ICT Capability” at KS3 outlines the nature and extent of progression in spreadsheet modelling capability expected throughout the key stage. More specifically, learning objectives for each year in Key Stage 3 are identified.

Specifically, this project addresses the following learning objectives.

• Design and create ICT-based models, testing and refining rules or procedures.
• Test hypotheses and predictions using models, comparing their behaviour with information from other sources.
• Review and modify ICT models to improve their accuracy, functionality and efficiency.

The schemes of work use a number of strategies to enable these learning objectives to be developed in a mixed ability context and focus on the teaching of modelling toYear 8. Some of the resources are taken from Unit 8.4 of the Key Stage 3 Strategy. It is assumed that pupils will have followed a modelling unit in Year 7 similar to Unit 7. 4.
