This six week project is designed to bring together children’s skills in ICT and Literacy. It is truly cross curricular; the basic idea can be used to link ICT with any subject.  This project was delivered to classes of Year 5 and Year 6 children working individually but could be easily adapted for any groups of Key Stage 2 children.

The idea was to produce a digital Fairy Tale that would appeal to the target audience, in this case Year 1 and 2 children.  Children had to think about their audience, make the story simple yet interesting, choose vocabulary carefully and give it a high visual quality.  They had to apply their knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and its applications to present text, pictures, animations and a narration.  It is an ideal literacy project as it gives writing a real purpose and using ICT will enthuse even the most reluctant writers.  Some children went on to create alternative endings to the traditional tales while others gave the tales a modern slant using Pokemon and Marapet characters.

The children completed their projects by creating CD labels and CD covers for their presentations using Microsoft Publisher. The finished products were then given to Key Stage 1 classes and also put in the school library where they could be borrowed and used at home.
