Creating your own Warhol

Student exemplars

In this project, Matt set himself the task of challenging the following notions .. that Powerpoint is a software application only used for presentations [and we've all heard of 'death by Powerpoint'!] and that it has ceased to offer creativity ... and that Art only happens in Art rooms lead by an Art teacher, with no computer involvement!

Those who have seen some of Matt's other contributions to the Teachnet programme will know that he is a keen historian but also a protagonist for the effective use of ICT in the classroom.

Thus he set himself and his students the challenge of creating Warhol-esque imagery and setting it within a Powerpoint presentation. Students gained an introductory understanding into the life and work of Andy Warhol, undertook some basic art critique and investigated the more creative elements of Powerpoint. Finally, students used structured writing techniques and persuasive argument to compare the qualities of 'pop-art' images and the works of the 'Masters'.
