Lesson 3

Starter  

Presentation: Pride and Prejudice to give a short summary of the plot.

Main  

Read aloud the extract of Mr Collins' proposol to Elizabeth Bennet and discuss any difficulties with the vocabulary.

Development  

In pairs or in groups, ask the students to discuss the two questions within the presentation and to start the comparison sheet and giving examples from the text to show their reasons. Concentrate on Austen's use of language, word choice, satire and irony.

Plenary   Ask representatives from the pairs/groups to feedback their thoughts.

Read aloud the extract of Mr Darcy's proposal to Elizabeth Bennet and discuss any difficulties with the vocabulary.
