Lesson 5

Starter  

Presentation: Jane Eyre which briefly explains the plot of the novel and introduces various points of language analysis.

Main  

Ask the students to form groups of 3 or 4 and begin by reading the Red Room extract. The teacher may wish to sit with a certain group for half the lesson at a time, so that by the end of the third Jane Eyre session, they have been able to complete some guided reading with each of the groups.

Development  

The students, using the guidance sheets, will make points using the PEE method to analyse the use of language in the extract.

Plenary   Ask representatives from the groups to feedback the best PEE they have made.

Lesson 6

Starter  

Presentation: Jane Eyre - remind the class of their conclusions from the previous lesson.

Main  

Ask the students to form groups of 3 or 4 to read the Gothic extract [Chapter 15].

Development  

Using the guidance sheets, the groups will make points, using the PEE method to analyse use of language in the extract.

Plenary   Ask representatives from the groups to feedback on the best PEE they have made.
