Laryssa has been heavily involved in GCSE examining and was interested in producing some work for English KS3 Poetry.

This unit of work covering between five to six hours in the classroom and targeting the Year 8 framework, focuses on sea poetry - specifically using Flannan Isle and Mary Celeste as mystery poems which lead to investigative work, imaginative writing, log keeping and report writing; lessons would also include some factual work, as both poems are based on real incidents.

There would be opportunities for information handling, for example accounts of lighthouse invention and upkeep etc. And as starters for each lesson, she would suggest using short, atmospheric sea poems to develop poetic techniques.
