This project contains a variety of resources to encourage children's thinking skills to solve open ended questions. They were initially designed for use by Lower KS2 pupils but could easily be adapted for use with others.

Rachel's school discovered that students did less well in mental arithmetic tests when questions were posed in an unfamiliar voice and so Rachel made her own audio tests .....

The activities are designed for use at the start of Mathematics lessons to help improve students' speed and accuracy over a range of calculations. Aimed at students in Y3, they can be adapted easily for other age groups.

Diagnostic Maths Testing

This resource is designed for very weak students in Y7 and provides targeted and appropriate intervention. After initial training on the resources, teaching assistants or older students can independently support the weaker students with only minimal direction from the class teacher.

The whole idea of the project is to develop in pupils, a true understanding of statistics and how people can use and manipulate statistics to produce statements/ diagrams that can be misleading.

This series of sessions can be used as Gifted and Talented Mathematics Resources.  Although originally designed for Y7, they can be used throughout KS3 and can either form individual lessons throughout the school year or they could be used in lunchtime or afterschool clubs.

Basic Maths for Parents!

This project arises from a course which was run for parents, exploring the different methods by which basic numeracy skills are taught in schools. The result is a series of presentations, video help files and question sheets explaining the different methods at National Curriculum levels 3, 4 and 5.

Percentages

This series of 5 lessons explores the study of percentages for KS3 students. A plan of each lesson is provided together with starter and plenary activities and in some cases, extension activities for those students who require the extra challenge.

Co-ordinates & Transformations

This project provides 8 hours' work on the topic Coordinates and Transformations [Levels 4-6] for Year 9 students. The lessons are mapped to National Strategy objectives and have been trialled with three different groups of students.

Factors, Area & Operations

This scheme of work over 11 lessons is aimed at Y7 students. It explores factors and prime numbers and provides an understanding as to how factors of numbers relate to area and perimeter problems.

Algebra

This resource comprises a range of presentations, worksheets and activities covering the GCSE Algebra syllabus. There are also activities aimed at encouraging students to explore topics further and deepen their understanding.
