This six week project is designed to bring together children’s skills in ICT and Literacy. It is truly cross curricular; the basic idea can be used to link ICT with any subject.  This project was delivered to classes of Year 5 and Year 6 children working individually but could be easily adapted for any groups of Key Stage 2 children.

Through the use of prepared worksheets, primary students are encouraged to visit websites to appraise the content and to find the information required to answer pre-set questions on popular topics.

This unit of work comprises six one hour lessons which can be taught consecutively or in two sets of three lessons. These lessons could form part of longer unit of work on this theme or they could be the introduction to a unit on story writing.

Some of the resources require teachers to use TextEase, an applicaton used widely in UK primary schools.

This project is designed to support pupils in their work relating to the Year 3 Narrative Unit 4 Authors and Letters in the renewed framework for Literacy in England. The exemplar unit is designed, in three phases, to be covered in three weeks. The resources included in this project may also be useful for pupils in other year groups.

Over a period of five lessons in one week, students work through the activities and exercises that provide practice in using instructional text whilst at the same time, revising verb tenses and using imperative commands.

Not only did Jo wish to bring her English and Media teaching into the world of Web 2.0 but she also wanted to change the way in which her subjects were studied. And so she went about researching the use of blogs by other teachers and set up two for her A level students, one focusing on the study of Teen Movies and the other focusing on the study of the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison.

This scheme is aimed at preparing Year 9 students for prose fiction GCSE coursework By the end of the unit of lessons [14 in total], students should be able to understand aspects of the writer's craft, mark differences in texts from different time periods and use the Point, Evidence and Evaluation method to analyse texts.

The resource is designed to prepare students for early GCSE entry in November and June but the resource can be used all year round and the lessons changed around to suit the needs of your own students. Indeed, you may wish to supplement your students' learning with your own resources, presentations and games etc.

This piece of work is to support the study of English Literature pre 1914 at Key Stage 4 and will require 7 to 8 weeks to cover. The resource contains suggested activities and a Powerpoint presentation for the study of Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen.

This unit of work covering between five to six hours in the classroom and targeting the Year 8 framework, focuses on sea poetry - specifically using Flannan Isle and Mary Celeste as mystery poems which lead to investigative work, imaginative writing, log keeping and report writing.

This comprehensive 18-lesson resource covers Section B of the AQA Literature examination. The study of poems in the Armitage/Duffy selection together with some from the pre-1914 selection is supported using annotated presentations and by using four themes - love, death, parent/child relationships and revenge.

This project covering over 11 classroom hours' studies literature of the First World War, one of the options of the AQA A Level English Literature syllabus. With a focus on 'Birdsong', the novel by Sebastian Faulks, it offers study guides and activities to help students respond to large and rich prose texts.

This scheme of work has been developed as a revision unit to pull together all of the skills needed to gain a successful outcome to the GCSE examination.  Whilst written for the AQA scheme, these lessons could be adapted to meet the requirements of other exam boards. 

This project provides a study guide for the AQA GCSE English examination. However, teachers not following the examination scheme are also welcome to use the resource for there is generic information on how to answer a poetry comparison question and how to analyse prose texts.

This scheme of work is a varied project for year nine pupils using activities based around exciting and engaging resources. Reading, writing and speaking and listening skills will be utilised, providing an introduction to persuasive writing which will provide skills to bridge the gap between key stages 3 and 4.

This resource aimed at GCSE students is to encourage the writing of a soldier's perspective on the invasion of Normandy during the second world war in 1944. The film 'Saving Private Ryan' can be used to provide the historical perspective and to shape emotions etc but other wartime literature and poetry can also be used, if required.

This unit is aimed at students starting secondary education and provides opportunities to research and evaluate advisory websites [focusing on bullying] and then develop the ideas behind the construction of their own site, and the writing and organisation of materials that will provide advice and guidance to other students.

The resource centres around the production of a newspaper by teams of students, and their presentation to the rest of the class on the roles and responsibilities of an editing team, the challenges to newspaper production and the importance of meeting publication deadlines etc.

This set of resources will help teach KS4 students how to think, plan, formulate and write intelligently on prose. Horror excerpts were chosen because of their appeal to teenagers and because supplementary materials can be found easily.

This resource contains PowerPoint presentations and other resources to develop a teacher's key skills in examination preparation while reinforcing the language of the poems themselves. The presentations can also be used as starting points for student activities.

This project provides two sets of revision resources for all KS3 teachers and their students for the SATs reading and writing papers. The Horror of SATs provides a fun unit with a lively horror focus whilst the Much Ado About Nothing set is designed to work with the set scenes for 2008.

This project aims to develop essential skills for A-Level English Literature. A Powerpoint presentation and linked resources prepare students for analysing texts, understanding terminology, for accessing criticisms and for imbuing students with a holistic understanding of the history of English and American Literature.
