Awards Ceremony: 21 April 2009 |
Citi Centre in London's Docklands was once again the magnificent venue for the Teachnet Awards Evening, held on 21 April 2009 to celebrate the achievements of our 2008-9 teacher participants. Around fifty teachers, their partners and headteachers came from across the country [some from as far away as Bradford and Cumbria] to receive awards and certificates for both individual and group participation.
This year, our Awards Winners were photographed with Ellen Dempsey, President of the Teachers Network in New York City [pictured left] and Sir James Hill, former Chairman of the SSAT's Board. Also special this year, was the presentation of certificates recognising the efforts of individuals and schools in helping us to grow the programme over the last five years. Dartford Technology College in Kent, Notre Dame High School in Sheffield and Heath Primary School in Chesterfield, Derbyshire are our new Teachnet Champion Schools and we thank their headteachers most sincerely for the continued support of the programme and for the part they play in fostering the sharing of good and innovative practice amongst their staff and more widely.
A welcome was given by Tony Parkin [Head of ICT Development at the SSAT] and by Florencia Spangaro [Corporate Citizenship, Citi and pictured right] who both thanked the teachers for their invaluable contributions to Teachnet UK, one in a suite of community programmes supported by Citi Foundation.
Glyn Barritt, Programme Manager for Teachnet UK read a description of every resource submitted to the 2008-9 programme ... a stunning array of resources from schools across the country, offering support in all subjects and phases, but focusing chiefly this year on cross-curricular 21st century learning skills.
Following the awards ceremony, there was an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the views from the Citi Tower and plan next year’s activities, over some rather enjoyable wine and canapés! And some rather interesting collaborations were overheard ... !
We are sincerely grateful to Citi for both its generosity in hosting the event and its continuing financial support of the programme.
And special thanks again to Florencia Spangaro who did so much to make this a truly enjoyable occasion for everyone!
